Turn Your Idea Into A Career
“Turn your idea into a career.” This is one of my favorite signature quotes. It’s simple and right to the point. Don’t be afraid to have a dream. So many of us have goals or wishes but we hide them in our imagination, ashamed or embarrassed to share it with the world. I tell this to kids all the time, “Dream big, Fear small!” If we don’t try we will never know.
As a kid on the basketball court by myself, my imagination took me places I never thought I could go. Places such as a sold out NBA arena, or in a video game, or commercial. I would create these unique scenarios in my mind, not knowing one day they would come true! For example, I’d spend my saturday’s at the park dribbling down the court in slow motion and crossing up imaginary defenders pretending to be starring in my own commercial. Hilarious right? Or what about the late nights I’d played Nintendo and Sega hitting the buttons on the remote controller as I attempted to create my own custom video game character. I know most basketball players can relate to that!
Moral of the story is, 10 years later I have starred in over 10 national and international television commercial ads. I also have been featured in and have a character in 2 of the world’s most popular basketball video games on XBOX and Playstation. 99% of the accomplishments I have achieved in my career started off as ideas. The difference for me was I took it a step further and wanted to make those dreams realities. You can do the same thing.
I leave you with this quote from Dr. Martin Luther King which sums it all up: “Faith is taking the first step without seeing the whole staircase.” What does that mean? It means you have to be brave enough to try. Those who have become successful in life had know clue how hard it would be to get the top, but rather they understood that their destination was worth more than the obstacles they would face along their journey. Keep working towards your goals, and look to turn your idea into a career!
