Greatness? It’s What You Do When No One Is Watching..

As a kid I began my journey on the basketball court. I had no map, no directions, but rather just a clear picture of my intended destination. That destination was “Greatness.” I had to figure out what needed to be done in order for me to become “GREAT.”

So every day before school, during school, and after school, I would work on my game. I came up with the idea to write down my goals everyday and scratch them off as they were completed. For instance, if I wrote down do 50 pushups before I eat my breakfast, I would do it. If I wrote down shoot 100 imaginary jump shots in the school hallway as I walk to class, I would do it. If I wrote down stay at the park and work on my dribbling drills until they cut the lights off at 11pm, I would do it.

Before you knew it, I started to see results. More importantly, I learned a very valuable lesson along the way. And that lesson was: ”It’s what you do when no one is watching. That’s how you reach your GREATNESS.”

So if I was at the park by myself shooting free-throws, I would imagine 20, 000 screaming fans making noise. If I was running a suicide, I would pretend Phil Jackson was on the sideline blowing the whistle. If I was working on my one dribble pull-up, I would act as if Kobe Bryant was defending me. So years later when these situations came to real life, it was second nature to me because I had already practiced it a million times.

That’s Greatness.
